Please submit extended abstracts of approximately 500 words for oral or poster presentation by Friday February 24, 2012 to submission@tappingtheturn.org.
Only abstracts sent to this email address will be considered.
All abstracts must be submitted in English and clearly state the objectives and desired outcomes of the proposed presentation.
THEMES
Submissions are particularly welcome that address the following themes:
a) Living with Water – City, country, farm, home, body, spirit
Household water use; rural and remote issues; cultural meanings and spiritual values of water; water and well-being.
b) Water Geographies, Histories and Futures – Tracing, writing, mapping, modelling
Water heritage; integrated and participatory water planning; site-specific water management.
c) Water Security and Insecurity – The hydropolitics of fear
Social aspects of water sustainability; demand management planning; predictability, unpredictability and complexity.
d) Water Genders, Cultures, Politics – Water governance
inside and outside the home.
Different cultural meanings; gendered water use; masculinity, femininity, water governance.
GUIDELINES
Please note the following abstract submission guidelines:
- Abstracts are to be submitted as a Microsoft Word document or text document. No pdf documents please.
- 10 point arial font
- 1½ line spacing
- 1 additional A4 pages of supporting tables or graphics may be included
- Include the title, authors and affiliations at the top of the first page, along with your preferred presentation type (platform, poster or either) and the conference theme your abstract reflects
- No standard format is prescribed, but abstracts should generally contain a brief introduction, with an outline of the paper’s methodology, the results/discussion and a conclusion
- A clear and concise title
- Abstracts may be amended or withdrawn before Friday February 24, 2012
- Abstract submission indicates that all authors have consented to its submission and have the appropriate intellectual rights to the material submitted
- Abstracts will appear in print as submitted
SELECTION OF PRESENTATIONS
Oral and poster papers presented at Tapping the Turn will be selected by a Reference Panel, assisted by the Steering Committee, in a blind abstract peer-review process. As a general guide, paper selection will be based on the following:
- Relationship and significance to the conference themes
- Originality
- Status of the project
- Technical content
- Quality (spelling, references, layout, etc)
SUCCESSFUL SUBMISSIONS
The full paper (both oral and poster presentations), limited to 6,000 words, and a one paragraph biography of the presenter, is to be submitted to submissions@tappingtheturn.org by Wednesday August 31, 2012.
A template for the conference paper will be provided. Size and layout specifics for posters will also be provided. Posters are to be brought directly to the conference venue.
Selected papers from the oral presentations will be submitted for publication in a special edition of relevant journal(s).
Presenters will be required to pay their travel and registration costs (at least the day of presentation).
